High Council March 16 th 1850
At a meeting of the High Council at the Music
Hall on Saturday March 16th 1850 at 11 oclock
A.M. the members of the Council were all
present but Councilor Henry Miller whose
place was filled by D. D. Hunt.
The Council was opened by Prest Orson Hyde
an remarks were made by Councillor Coulson
in relation to the measures & the difficulties of
those engaged in the Saw Mill.
PresOrson Hyde spoke of the mission of Bro
Mulliner & Bro Blair said that his allusions
were not with regard to the Saw Mill, for that might
be good in itself, but to the spirit by which those
men were [======]who were engaged in it, made
allusions to the humbuggies of men who were too
lazy to work to get an honest living,l Said there
may be good in, the machine but I seriously doubt it
let the machine be tested on an economical scale
& if there is any good in it, let them do what
they will with itself the funds derived from it, would
amount to any thing. I should by in favor of
having the Tything paid out of it Spoke of the
joint stock Com P in England; its many shares
sold and of the many thousand Dollars that were
collected; & its designs to build ships for the Saints
to emigrate, also spoke of its allusions effects & final
results, that there were no addition to the Church
the Gospel was not preached nothing but joint stock.
