and root out & keep out such Characters, & we will curse the Man
who will do such things,& he shall by cursed. We preached pretty
hard doctrine to you through this Summer, & some Sisters felt bad
about it, let them not feel so, for we saw & heard things that were
carried on by wicked Men, & we wished to, & did warn you ahead of
it,so dont feel hard about it. It is breaking out Covenants & preaching
things not sent to do, which brings on darkness &c,such Men must
return & repent,& it will take a faithful Elder three months to follow
in the track of such a man & heal up the wounds. I will not pour on
cold water, but will pour on hot water &c, and let them soak. Elder
Hyde said he would support virtue, sobriety, & honesty, &c. drinking,
& trading in spiritnous liquors was put down last Sabbath,
to exalt
this people &c, he then spoke as to dancing having been spoken agst
at conference, & some have since said that they will have dancing
notwithstanding the acts of the authorities & people of this Church
to the contrary. Presdt Snow said there was little business to transact
in the quorum this day. Elder Staunton represented that Elijah
Wilson in Springville branch is old & infirm,,& wishes ordination into
this quourm. It was carried by vote that he be, & Elders Staunton & Huston to Ordain him, & report it to the clerk, Elder Hyde said that O. Cowdery was present,& wished to be indentified with us,
that he was glad he has a desire to by one with us,& wished O.
would speak himself at this time, as Geo A. Smith and
myself have had a private conversation with him. Oliver Cowdery
said he did not come to speak, but to be a looker on, & a hear, & that
there was no time he thought of the Gospel &c but he feels grateful to
God, for the glory & honor redounds to God &c, he said he always speaks
the word he has given him to say,when he thought is would redound
to his honour & glory. He wishes to come into the Church in an humble
manner, an humble follower of Jesus Christ, not seeking for any
presidency. I approve of all the teachings I heard here to day, am not
a member of this Church, wish to come in at the door,& remain a
simple Member, it is for this people to act, & me to be acted upon,and
