The charge was then read by the clerk, the council voted
that two speak on a side,, speakers for plaintive. Jas.
Allred N. Sm Bulkley for defendant Human12 Hyde
and Ira oviatt,, Some instruction by Pres. G. A Smith
Sister Hatch said the reason she could not live
with brother Hatch, was he was continualy harrassing
her, and acusing her of belong to another man or of
intending to belong to some one else,, and palming
herself on him so as to get her living,, said he had
threatened to leave her sell his property and go East
and get his first wife's sister &c.
1st witness R. S. Wild testified he had been acquainted
with Sister Hatch since about a week after she
was married to brother Hatch.. He saw bro Hatch
have a paper, and heard his boys say it was an
advertisement to sell hid cattle &c,, he said bro & sister
Hatch had considerable talk in the night time
while he was boarding there,, one night they talked
nearly all night,, he supposed it was on religious
subjects said he had heard brother Hatch say he
had misused sister Hatch and abused her, but did
not say what in,, said there was considerable turmoil
in bro Hatch, family while he was boarding there, as
to vietuals and drink Bro Hatch used Sister Hatch well
and took good care of her, and in his talk about
her spoke highly in her praise.. He heard Bro H.
say he was nit satisfied with the ceremony
and did not believe they were lawfuly married..
2nd witness N. S. Bulkley testified that Bro Hatch had
acknowledged to him that he had misused her, but
laid the blame on nothing to her his family, they being dissatisfied
with his bringing her into the family,, said Bro. H.
confessed to him he had cursed and sworn at
her, and further had abused her in toring her
petticote from her & said Bro Hatch told him he
would hire a house for her, and support her and
her family six months, and would not torment her
