and carried unanimously, that the clerk of this quorum, do
give Licences to then members there of, when required,
& that he
receive twenty five cents for each licence. After Prayer, the
meeting was adjourned until the first Sabbath in April next.

Sunday April 2nd 1848. A meeting of the quorum of high
Priests was held at the Tabernacle at 11 oclock a. m. William Snow
the president of the quorum, & Alext William & Moses Clawson his
Councillors, were present.Meeting called to Order by the President.
Sung a Hymn. Isaac Allred & Moses Harris made a return of their
having ordained John Egbert Sent to the high Priesthood according
to an appointment made upon the 6th day of february last. Prayer
by Elder Clarke the Presdt of the Elders quorum. Enos Curtis of big
Spring branch, William Milan and Hiram Clarke, both of blockhouse
branch, Aaron Cheney of North branch of Pyion, & James Dunn of
pleasant Valley branch were received into the quorum, agreeable to the
regulations. Elder Geo A. Smith being present, the presdt said he gave
way to him to give instructions, but remarked upon sine few who
came amongst us as a people , not to do good, but to pass bogus&c.
to the prejudice of many good men, both as to their feelings and
injury, not because this community are more wicked than others,
but because they are more righteous. He also made some remarks
upon the practices of gambling & drinking &c, carried on in Missouri,
&c &c, likewise as to the grocery adjacent to the Tabernacle, the laws
made by the high Council concerning selling spirituous liquors, &
the teachings given to the Church against drinking such liquors,
& that nothing is patronized in this Church but what is righteous,
and said he desired that the people might keep the statutes of
the Lord as Old Israel did at some times, in days of old. Elder Geo
A. Smith expressed his approbation of the teaching of the President,
& gave considerable instructions, after which the meeting was
concluded in the usual manner, & adjourned until the first Sabbath
in May Wm Snow, President.
