Meeting called to Order. sung  on page 55.- Prayer by Elder,
E. T. Benson. After which sing on page 108'' Let Sinners take their course,''&-- Presdt Wm Snow them opened the meeting, as Presdt of the
high Priests quorum. make some preliminary remarks, & thought
it best, as the time for then general conference was so near at hand,
and the business to be bone, it was best to dispense with the business
of the quorum, & proceed to the business necessary    to be done. We
are all aware that Presdt Young left us last June with a large
company of Saints with him. Shortly after he departed, Elders
Richards & Lyman left with a company of Saints. You know  the
anxiety they have to hear from us, & the communication here is
cut off , only as we may send it to them. their anxiety must be
great to hear from us, to know what we are doing, & our prospects
for the future. The Lord has put the management of his kingdom
into the hands of his servants, & they wish to send a mail to the
Valley, it is now for us to fit the men out. there are three men ready
to start if they can be fitted  out. Presdt Geo A. Smith got up and
remarked, '' if all feel as I do about sending to the Valley, there is
no difficulty on the subject, the Mail will be sent. We all feel an
anxiety to hear rom the Valley & the anxiety by those in the Valley
is much greater. I have conversed  with many relative to going
at this season; they say there is no danger. We expect to receive a
Mail from the Valley now soon, & the probability is, we may reckon
hearing from them three times this season. It is necessary to have
an expression if the people relative to our sending the Mail.''Question
put by Elder Snow & carried by an unanimous vote of those present.
Elder Benson then arose & said, it is the mind of the people to send
the mail,& those that are going are poor & must be assisted off, &
all that are disposed to help must come & help this day, if possible,
in order that the men may be ready to start as soon as conference
is over. Elder E. M. Greene got up and read an Epistle from Elder
Hyde, ( presdt of the Quorum of the twelve,) Elder G. A. Smith arose & said,
he recd yesterday. letters that had been on the road for a long time. It
seems to be unfortunate for me to be a Smith. I however received a
letter yesterday, a letter published in Kirtland Ohio, by Wm E. Mc Lelland
