On this 6. day of October , 1888, at
Silver Reef, County of Washington, Territory
State of Utah, before me, E. P. Halstead, a
Special Examiner of the Pension office, personally appeared Joshua
Alplin , who, being by me first duly sworn to answer
turly all interregatories propounded to him during this Speical Examination of aforesaid
pension claim, deposed and says: that he is 47 years old,
occupation mining residence and
post office address Silver Reef, Utah.
that he has known the claimant about
12 years, never knew the soldier,
that he had known claimant as
a widow, she has lived here at
Silver Reef; that the daughter has
lived with her part of the time
and a son a part of the time
one or the other has been with
her all the time; Mr G. B. Smith
has liced in the house and she
has done his cooking and kept
house for him; that there were
two beds in the house, two rooms
in the house, a bed in each room
that they have not been married to
his knowledge, and thinks they have
not lived together as husband
and wife, does not know of her
being before the grand jury for any
cause, don't think she was before
the jury at all that he is not related
to her and has no interest in
her claim never saw them in
the same bed and cannot say
whether they sleep together or not
