Councillor Lyman Stoddard said Joseph
K Lane had said he would cane Bro, J. M. Benson if the Council should decide
so and so in the difficulty between Bro's Benson
and [======] but he being acquainted with both
families and at home at either place considered
it the passion of the moment, and tho't best to
say nothing about it,, but have labored dilige-
ntly to get the conflicting parties to settle, but find
ing, no chance only for it to come before the
Council and father Joseph D. Lave speaking to
me the other day says Benson had better
keep clear from Joseph, as he would certainly
beat him, I then tho't best to apprise Bro. Hyde
of it and let him know their feelings, and I
do not know but Bro Benson will censure me
for not letting him know there was danger, for
I have not made to known before, to him..
Bro. Jos. K Lane made explanation, the things
if which Benson had accused his sister, which
he had every reason ti believe false, so exasperated
him that he felt just like caneing Benson
and he still felt the same way if Benson
did not take that back, yet he was willing to
leave it with the High Council, and abide their
decission..
