                   Sir,
                              I have the honor to return
                          with my report  the papers in
                         the claim No. 3409. Mary E. Earl
                         widow fo James C. Earl, Capt.
                         Hunt Co. Mormon Battalion,                
                          which was referred to the
                          S. E. Division for special Exam-
                          ination to determine whether    
                          she is the legal widow.
                          The claimant was duly notified
                          but was not present during
                          any part of the examination
                          waiving her right to notice
                           and representation.
                          The claimant admits keeping
                          house for a man by the name
                           of G. B. Smith for a number of
                          years, which is the occasion
                          for public scandal in
                          Washington Co, so much
                           that an effort was made
                           to bring then before the
