The business of the Conference The fitting up
a mail this fall to the Valley If a mail is not
sent on this fall the probability is they would not
get any information until July -
Br George A Smith metioned that he act
as the President of this Conference seconded & carr.d
We want to make such calculations that no
poor widow have a cold house to live in this year winter
we have a great many items of business to attend to
we have a Pamphlet of Lyman White & the Twelve's
Epistle or a part of there to day to read
I would motioned that Evin M[olburne] Green Josiah Merritt, Robert
Campbell act as the Clerks of this Conference
After an explanatory account was given of the First
Porton of Lyman Wights Pamphlet had been given by Br George
A Smith - Br George Coulson was called upon and read latter part of
said Pamphlet - After a few remarks made by G. A. the reply was
read by R. C. - Some other transactions filled up
the exercises of the Morning and the meeting adjourned
one hour –
The Meeting opened the afternoon business at 1/2 past 2
and the Band struck up a lively tune or two - after which
a prayer was offered by Dr Ezekiel Lee - a Hymn sung by Br Josh
Young - '' Come all ye sons of Zion''
Br G. A. Smith I suppose the business of this
afternoon will be the trial of the Authorities - but as we
wish to give all parties a fair chance I thought I would intro
duce a certain Pamphlet called The [?Ensign of Liberty] from Oliver to David he holds that the Twelve
Authority is an assumption and read quoted Thus it is That Our right gives
us the head, ''that we have the authority and do hold the Keys'' &c
Oliver Cowdery - Another by David Whitmer '' That we have
established the Kingdom of God again by laying aside our dead works, & being reordined to our former offices Pres & Coun as formerly
Pres & Coun as formerly Wm Clerken '' That you Wm Clellen Oliver, shall
stand in the same relation to me,as all you xx stood to Joseph
&c. as this is a public matter I thought you should havehim it –" before the vote was put in relation to the Presidency.
have as our yours the frst moved & seconded that we receive Brig
ham Young as our the Firt President Carr[ied]
H C Kimball be sustained in his calling as a Counsellor to
the Prest , and an Apostle of J. C.
