He thought from the account, he was to speak two weeks from yes=
=terday, but, that he should drop it if it is not free, he would have
nothing to say. O. Hyde said he wanted his rights confirmed by the
living. P. Hawes wished to withdraw. Wm Snow asked P. Hawes
if he wished a vote taken on the subject. P. Hawes said he wanted
time, if too tedious, he wanted to be heard. Ezra T. Benson moved
that P. Hawes pour out his Soul before the People, seconded by Elder
Clawson, also by O. Hyde, Saml Gully objected to the speaking, as the
Order of the meeting was different, & it was not fit here, he wanted to
see P.Hawes take the Order of the Kingdom. P. Hawes said he wanted
to investigate principles, not to carry on a War, also said, I decline.
S. Gully said if he understood the word investigate, it is combat on each
side, & believe he has a line of thoughts to convey, I cant sit still on my
seat, I go for Order. E. T. Bensons motion was then withdrawn.
Wm Snow said he prayed that he might know the Spirit of the man,
& of God, he felt willing that Bro Hawes should speak for he felt
that he was competent to judge of the Spirit, & he did not know that
he ever was mistaken. When any of this quorum see me cast insum=
ations to crush any one in authority that moment my influence
begins to cease. The way I could destroy my influence would be to
destroy or try to do so, the influence of O. Hyde or others. He then brot Bro Reuben Miller presented his license & was received into the quorum
up the business of the quorum.Charles Hopkins was recommended
by Prest O Hyde, & recd to be ordained into the quorum, & was so by
Aaron Johnson & Moses Clawson. Presdt Hyde said there were a few
things he wished to speak upon, some small things were of more
importance to us than some of those things called great things, the
first inducements are necessary, and let us see that we are well
grounded, there is a sphere in which the different grades of Presdt
Hyde mat act, there are spheres where every grade may act unres=
=t rained, in preaching righteousness he is unlimited, in ordinations
he is limited,&c, If a man is faithful in that , his heart id faithful
also in much &c, that man will gain step by step, & will rise till
he shall wield the sceptre of this government over many, & of the
extent & increase of his government & power there is no end. It's out of
