He said he did not believe in this bishop
way of doing business.. He believed in
Lyman Wight's way to speak the word and the
fur flies.. He said the people came
from different parts to find the Kingdom
of God but could not find it. They could
find Brighams Kingdom. Heber's Kingdom,
Orsons Kingdom &c,, said they called on the
people to cut off Lyman Wight and Almon
Babbitt who held more power than they did,
ever did, or ever will.. They usurp the authority
get the people to believe they are the one's
to lead them &c,, and they would do any
thing these men call upon them to do.. Haws
said he was in Council about a week said
there was a Council of fifty and a revelation
said to them ye are my constitution,, said
they had been to work a week and could not
find a constitution.. The prophet was with them
and the revelation given.. Haws said there
was no law of God, only you should not infringe
upon your neighbor 's rights and take nothing
from him unlawfully.. At the time of the
conference he said speaking relative to his
mission- to the south,, he went to prove whether
the prophet was a prophet of God or not-and
whether the country was as he represented..
I took it he meant the prophet Joseph
Smith..
2nd witness Josiah Merritt said he boarded
with brother Haws last winter two weeks,,
said there was liquor sold in his house
to the Indians for furs and ponies.. The
business was generaly done by all hours and
in the night tho' all the men of the house was
generaly up at all hours of night..
