Ezra T. Benson. It will be an uphill business to go against
the Counsel of the authorities of this Church. If a man is weak
& faulters, whether there is a God in Mormonism or not, let
him prove it. A sectarian can have his property in one hand
& his religion in the other, go to meeting, put on a long face in
presence of the minster& Deacon, make all the gain he can
in trade &c, and all is well. Mormonism is not so. I wish to
have the same face & actions on the week days as on Sundays.

=ings & doctrine were given in, to discern them. A man should

ces are not so good, be patient & we will get through, we must
endure so as to know good from Evil. Hold on, & we will receive
blessings when we least expect it. See & keep the Spirit
that you had in old England & Wales when the Elders prea=
=ched unto you be the Spirit & power of God. People have to
sustain themselves & those they bring to the Valley but some
fear. lest the grass dont endure,, but I will go, God willing,
settle my family there, & go elsewhere as my duty requires.
I want men to have faith & go on, not be disheartened &
clog the wheels, the country so wide, if necessary we will make
new roads in the summer, & not in winter like col Fremont.
We will excuse some if they give their Teams, or part to bring
others on. A man who settles down to make a farm and
enrich himself will lose the Spirit of the Lord. In a private
