Councillor Miller agreed and Councillor Harris but thought that nothing should
be done until the Governor's Writ had taken the prisoner, otherwise the would say
we sent for his family with a design of moving him off 

Counc^r Caulson thought that the law of this Church did not bind any woman to a
Scoundrel for the sake of pandering a  nest of Vipers on this Church.  He wished to know
if while she were here she did not know the vices of the man. if she did she was still
following him up in his wicked course and was partaker of his evil deeds &c &c [etc etc] 

Councillor Harris made remarks honorable to the wife her character, prospects
and family connexions and worthy the notice of the Council 

Councillor Stoddard said "that the Dr had spoken his mind in a general point of
view

Councillor Redfield expressed the delicacy of the subject and his inability to decid ^{this question}  

Councillor Snow spoke of the virtue of the confiding power of woman and its effects when
the husband will take any advantage of them by a misrepresentations, of spoke of the
various circumstances that the woman were placced and hoped that mercy would be shown
 to the innocent

Councillor Benson said that he wished with the Doctor that inasmuch as the families
were partakers of their evil deeds that the Authorities would ^not sustain them; for it would thereby
throw a public influence abroad against us as a people

Councillor Bigler said he did not want to bring up a general case as a precedent
but his views were that we should deal with it according to circumstances and the nature
of that case.  Made allusions also to many honest men and women being led off.

Councillor Johnson said he thought that if it was right to sustain  the wife of a culprit
at one time it was at any other and it is as right at this time.  He thought if the woman suffered
it was right to sustain her

Pres^t Hyde said that he was pleased with the remarks both on the Side of justice
and mercy.  spoke of old Isreal where a crime had been committed by their law blotted
out the very name like a leprosy &c ^said We have found among us generous hearted men who
commit horrid deeds, begging our protection, pleging their life to sustain us and at the
same time jeopardizing ours.  Spoke of the benefits arising sometimes from doing a favor.  
Said he did not want innocent wives and children to suffer; at the same time as a
Church we should take a wise course.  Alluded to a small circumstance of favor which
he received from a man the subject of these remarks. and concluded his remarks by
saying same the woman

A vote was taken by the Council & House to that effect which was unamimous

Pres^t Hyde read an Appeal to the Public to raise funds, to carry out this measure 

The Council adjourned to meet this Day fortnight at 11 o'clock A.M.
