"Pres"Young instructions to his herdsman Mr. Lathrop"
I wish you to have a learge yard,on the rush bottom,
where they can water without leaving the yard, and
salt them in the same. Be sure and not let them
eat to much at first if your yard is in the rushes, when
the yard is fed close turn the cattle in the rushes, an
hour or two, and return them to the yard. but be
sure and not let them eat too freely at any time,
till their  apppetite is sated, and they have become
accustomed to them, other wise they would kill themselves
Keep them in the yard only while feeding and
let them fast, or Keep them on praisie  grab or house,
one day in each week and two days the first week
and give them plenty of salt, which I send you a
supply.... I wish each herd to be Kept seperate.
Be careful and not let the cattle tread down the rushes.
faster then they need to eat, should there come a -----
time and freeze, and the cattle are permitted to
to in the rushes where they have been fed off they will
eat so much ice above the top joint as to kill them
at such time give them new rushes &c.
The nearer you can arrange your yards together,
and not have the herds interfere passing in and out,
and feed from each other on the right and left the
better in case you wanted to unite your strength in
any difficulty; and particularly in case of a possible
invasion, which we do not anticipate, but be ye
always ready and watch as well as as pray.
If the timber is thick , you can easely enlarge and
change your yards, and keep the cattle there in, all or
most of the time, which will be a safe and
convenient method. It will be a blessing to thee
brethren to organize themselves, have their social
meeting, and pray with and for each other,,
