He thinks he saw Bro. Peter Haws, one of
twice sell liquor to the Indians,, genrealy
he seemed to have a great concern for the
interest of his son or for himself,, as he
took much pairs in seeing to the sale
and purchase of ponies &c,, business generaly
done from 9 ocl.P. M. to 3 ocl. A. M. .. I quit
boarding there on that account.. I contracted
with Bro Haws himself.. They paid from 1 gal.
to six gallons of liquor for a pony,, bro Haws
is himself the governor of the house..
3 witness John Thompson said here were some furs
deposited in his house by Alpheus
Haws said that Haws complained he had a
hard time, and he wanted to make it up if
he could, and he bro' t them there to keep
them secret,, said he made no inquiries..
4 witness Pres. O. Hyde said at a meeting at Bro
Jas. Brownings he said if any man sold
liquor to the Indians or allowed it to be
done in his premises, the son of peace should
leave his habitations the spirit of God should
leave his heart, and he be left in a snare
when there is none to help.. Bro Haws
then rose and said there were some
things in this Church that are not
right it is wrong to sell whisky to the
Indians and other things are not right.
He then lifted his hand to heaven and declared that his hands were clean
from these things and called God and
angles to witness it..
