nature of the verbal instructions he received in the Valley
and said his teachings abroad had been that the
Brethren should gather up and go to the Valley
of the Salt Lake with all they raise to carry with them,
and his exehortations to the brethren were to go the Valley
if they had to go in rags if they could provide only a
sufficient of provisions to last them through, by all means go..
He then appealed to brother Hawkins to bear witness of the
truth of these instructions, being given him by Prest B. Young
Prest O. Hyde said he had Counseled the Brethren to take
not less than nine months provision to sustain them
until they could by sustained at the return of harvest,
that he had acted under writen instructions that he had
received under the seal of the Presidency from the Valley
and not from the verbal instruction of any other, that Bro.
Johnson come with the mail bringing those instructions
and stated also that Bro. Johnson had not been to the Valley
( refered to the Frontier Guardian containing the items of that instruction.)
and stated also that Bro. Johnson had not been to the Valley
since that time, & urged upon the Brethren the necessity of
waiting for the arrival to the maid from the Valley before
he could give Council for the coming Spring..
Bro Johnson wished to know if he should hold still in the
mission that Prest B. Young had given him..
Prest O. Hyde said he did no feel like Counciling him
but he had to do with the instructions he had received and
Council accordingly..
Councillor William Snow said he did not like the spirit that
prompted the remarks of Bro. Johnson they seemed to him
to savor to much of a wish to control and to have his own way,
regardless of the Council here.. Bro. Johnson seems to think the
Council here has no right to dictate or control his course, be it
what it may because he had received his instructions from Prest
Young.. Refered to Bro Whitehead & others that had received
instructions and had missions appointed them, but when
they stepped out of the line of them missions they were
controlled.. Not that I speak of this to accuse Bro. Johnson
