Atchinson County } On this 29th day of December in the year one thousand
eight hundred and forty eight personally appeared before
me the undersigned a justice of the peace for the
County and state.
above mentioned James C Earl who being duly sworn according to law
declares that he id the identical James C Earl who was a private in the
company Commanded by Capt Hunt in the Mormon Battalion com=
=manded by Capt --- Lt Geo Cooke that he was mustered into service at
Council Bluff by Lt Col J Allen on the 16th day of July 1846 for the
term of one year and was discharged at Utah Valley in California on the
16th day of July 1847 by [----] of expiration of term of service I never
received any discharge  The Battalion to which I belonged was mustered out of service
Sworn to and subsribed before me }

Atchison County } Before me C N Cowles a justice of the peace for said
      County personally came alfred higgins a Cridible witness
who being duly sworn according to law in oath says that James C
Earl where name appears to the above affidavit was mustered
into service and served ad therein states that he was honorably dis=
=cgarged and that the Contents of his affidavit are just and true
The testimonoy of a Commissioned officer of the Company to which I
belonged cannot now be had
sworn to and subscribed before me}  Alfred Higgins
this 29th day of  December 1848

Atchison County} I herevy certiy that C. N. Cowles Esq before wherein the
   foregoing affidavitewere made and who has thereunto
subscribed hid name, was at the time of so doing a justice of the
Peace in anhd for said Count duly Commossioned and sworn
                     in testimony where of I have hereunto
                     set my hand and affixed the seal of
                     my office as  Clerk of the County Court
                     of said County at office this 29th
                     day of December 1848
